Greetings from The Lawrence Alliance! The current Lawrence Alliance board members and I are committed to becoming better watchdogs for the Lawrence community in order to identify potential areas where a person or group of people might face discrimination. We are also committed to understanding and identifying the level of diversity and tolerance in Lawrence as a whole.  How can we do this? By talking to group leaders and Lawrence citizens for input. Group Leaders: We want to find out what community organizations are currently doing to help promote tolerance and diversity. If you are a leader in one of these organizations, please contact us at alliance@lawrencealliance.org so we can invite you to speak at our next Board meeting. From there, we can build our resources to share with our community and form stronger alliances. Citizens: How accepting do YOU feel Lawrence is with respect to diversity and promoting tolerance? Can you identify problem areas? Do you have a story to share? Would you be willing to help us strategize as we identify problems and work toward finding solutions? If so, please send a quick e-mail to alliance@lawrencealliance.org indicating your interest in getting involved. We hope to hold community meetings throughout Lawrence in upcoming months to provide you with the opportunity to give your opinion, share your stories, and offer solutions. We will contact you when we have set a date.  What can we accomplish? Let’s bring people together, share resources, and begin dialogues so that we may PROACTIVELY identify problems--particularly those underlying attitudes and issues that lie just below the surface--and work toward building bridges and creating cohesiveness.   Why do we do this? No one should ever feel that he or she is any less significant than anyone else in Lawrence. People who work together build stronger communities.
